Hello Pam and Peter!
Well, what a week! I'm glad I have this work to keep me focused and occupy the space between my ears.
This week brought a mix of tasks to tackle in the shop.
The first was to final sand all of the drawer parts to proper thickness. Done and they look quite beautiful! First 3 pics below.
The second was to review shop drawings and make all final adjustments. Done and coming soon for Renée and I to review next week. Once these are approved, I will cut everything to final dimension and begin cabinet assembly, followed by creating all of the drawer joinery.
The third was to lay out and cut all of the white oak sheet material(oversize for now) that will make up the carcasses for all of the base cabinets with drawers. My main focus here is always square, square and square. The sheet photos start with #4 below.
I recognize these early photos and videos aren't all that interesting, yet! They look like a bunch of stacked parts and, I suppose, that's exactly what they are... nothing hidden here. So, yeah, not at all exciting...However, the parts will become assembled pieces before long and then they start to resemble something intentional and refined. Thanks for being patient.. It'll all be worth it.
Months ago, I made a mockup (last 3 pics below) of the cabinet and drawers with some scrap materials. It was to be something I can reference during my planning and milling stages. I can't tell you how many times I've needed to review the smallest of details. These are not your typical drawers. There are many considerations to make that just don't translate well in a 2D drawing. Making practice runs are a standard practice around here.
Thanks for reading.
I hope you both are doing well!
Til next time...
It's so cool to see these fresh beginnings...it reminds me of a block of stone or a lump of clay or a blank canvas before the masterpiece is carved or made into what has been dreamt for it. I can't wait to see what grows and takes shape from these flat stacks!
